18th Sunday after Pentecost - October 15, 2000

AS WE GATHER God gives grace to the humble. The world may not see humbly serving in the Lord's name as living blessedly, but Jesus does. His call is not one to selective servant hood. Those whom he cites as being first, informed by heavenly wisdom, find expression for their faith in loving service to all. In worship we serve and strengthen one another as we offer our thanks and praise to the God who graciously blesses us.

17th Sunday after Pentecost - October 8, 2000

AS WE GATHER Today we focus on aspects of faith. The Gospel highlights Peter's heartfelt confession of Jesus as the Christ. Words full of faith are evidenced in faith-filled deeds. In the Epistle reading, James exhorts his hearers to impartial service to all people. Even when suffering is a consequence of faith, as echoed in the servant song from Isaiah in the Old Testament lesson, it has the power to work for eternal good for the faithful person.

AS WE GATHER Today is Trinity Sunday, when we remember that our God has revealed Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It is good news of the great love of this, our God, that we share with the world this day and all days.

4th Sunday of Easter - May 14, 2000

AS WE GATHER Although we prefer the peaceful picture of the Good Shepherd carrying a sweet little lamb to safety, the Gospel lesson reminds us of the reality of the rescue. It cost the Good Shepherd his own life. From this sacrifice comes the hope of green pastures and quiet waters where the scattered are gathered as one and their ears listen only to the voice of the one Good Shepherd.

AS WE GATHER The disciples "disbelieved for joy" wondering if the Good News of the resurrection and new life were too good to be true. Shaken from their daze, they realized it was Jesus--alive and standing in their midst. Witnesses of this wondrous good news, the disciples boldly proclaimed Jesus as the one and only name of salvation.

5th Sunday in Lent - April 9, 2000

AS WE GATHER The love of God has brought us together again. Especially in the Lenten season, we focus on the lengths to which God has gone to demonstrate his love for us. As we worship today, once more we stand in awe at the divine love, reaching all the way to the cross for our salvation and peace.
